DEFINITION OF NURSING
there are probably many definition of nursing as there are individuals nurses. nursing has been defined as giving assistance to person who are unable to meet their help care needs (orem,1980). furthermore, roy (1976) defines nursing is promoting a positive adaptation to changing internal and axternal environments. then, according de young (1981), nursing is caring and nurturing of the physical, family, or community. each definitions by nurse leaders are a statement how individuals have vieweds nursing . each definition has been studied, debated, and researched. individual scholol of nursing and health care institution each select a definition that seems to best reflect the purpose of their unique organization.other definitions of nursing which have widespread acceptance are put fort by the american nurses association (ANA),and the international council of nurse(ICN). The ANA defined nursing practice as a direct service, goal oriented, and adaptable to the needs of the individual, the family, the community during health and illness, the alleviation of suffering of suffering and the ensuring of a peaceful death when life can no longer be sustained." the ICN state "the unique function of nurse is to assist the individual, sick or well, in the performance of those activities contributing neccessary strenght, will or knwoledge."
